" Zebra crossing"

This has been a strange week. First of all, I was in Naivasha and this happened.
and this;
I was driving on along the Kongoni area (at the Oserian game corridor) and what do you know! a herd of zebras, giraffes, and hartebeest decided to cross the road right then. It was fun to see them so close although I was scared they would tramp me but I very grateful there was no elephant! Talk about surprises, I mean you expect an animal to cross a road at some point but wow!!!! Ok now onto some crafting, more thank you cards, it's that time of the year.

I will submit it to the following challenges.
Card patterns- sketch.
paper pretties- thank you
stamp something- thank you.
The shabby tea room-thank you.
Sisterhood of crafters- thank you.
Raise the bar challenge- Grateful.
Sentimental sundays- thankful
Crazy for challenges- add circles.
Digi doodle shops best- anything goes.

Thanks for visiting and watch out, you never know who may be crossing the road next.

Roses for a friend.

I hate Mondays, especially this Monday. I had a fun weekend. Visiting friends, friends and some more friends. Visiting my sister at her campus, crafting then waking up to a Monday- snooze. It's like the day after Christmas, or your birthday. I have a hangover (not from drinking- I don't do that) but from enjoying myself and now it's back to work. Good thing I will only be at the office for a few hours this week otherwise am off on field work.
I made a card for my friend Sheila to wish her luck in her studies. I got a chance to use my new scallop scissors. I have been up and down Nairobi looking for a pair of these then when I had just given up I found a shop that had one pair remaining.
I made the paper roses  and I am quite in love with this card, am happy she loved it.
I posted my card at the Sketches4all forum.
I will submit it for the following challenges:-

Paper sundaes challenge- Two toppings- butterfly punch and the color blue.

Crafty Emma's challenge- think pink.

cards, bugs and great news!

There is this disgusting and evil beetle called the Nairobi fly (Paederus crebinpunctatus) that comes around whenever it rains. It does not bite or sting but produces a very toxic liquid once it's crushed against the skin.
One of these landed on my baby's neck unknowingly and I think he may have crushed it because this morning we woke up to a horrible rash on his neck.
Moving on to other news, I have been invited to join at the sketches4all forum as a part of the DT (thanks Fia). I have a group going on (Jackie's card challenges). Here is this week's sketch.
Here is the card I made:-
Do visit our forum and check out the various groups and maybe join in a few.
Since a party for one is no fun, we shall be joining the following folks:-

Craft your passion- two of something- two layers.

Christmas come early,

I was surprised (and overjoyed) at the awesome and nice raves I received over my last card. I am happy to learn Quilling is a much admired craft. I am a lover of all things holiday and Christmas is THE holiday.  This card has very nice colors this photo does not do it justice.
December happens to be a sunny month in this part of the world, so naturally I make the holiday cards bright, sunny with lots of color. No santa, snowman or ice here!
My baby is teething (I was starting to get worried when at one year there was no sign of anything dental ). So there has been very little time to craft for this mama, but am happy I finally finished a card.
I seriously will get a better picture and re post the card here.
Also to fit in with the following challenges:-
That was long! Thanks for visiting.

Very Thankful,

I made another Thank you card. Not for anyone specifically but I am sure If I look hard enough (maybe not that hard) I am bound to find numerous occasions and people to be thankful for. Number one on my list is family- Sam and Jay. My only sister  Pam, my parents and parents in law. I think right there I have someone to be thankful for. Sis will be receiving this card on thanksgiving (she does not read my blog so it will be a surprise). She is the best sis evar!
The sketch is my own design and I spent a lot of time quilling the flowers and I thought the punched butterflies added a good touch.
I will also be taking this card to these challenges:-

A spoonful of sugar - get punchy (butterflies).
Simon says stamp- punch em.
OSAAT Challenge- all celebrations (thanksgiving).

Keeping it simple.

I have been MIA for almost a week now. I simply have not had time to spare but I am happy to be creating again.

I love using my "thinking of you" sentiment because its simply so versatile for so many occasions. Holiday, birthday, sympathies anything. I loved the sketch from stamping 411 because I could keep  things very simple.
Quilling is becoming my favorite thing nowadays and I could not resist adding a touch of it to this card. I enjoy it because I can quill away while the baby is playing or when watching TV. I can even hold a decent conversation at the same time. It's kinda therapeutic actually lol!
Also for these challenges:
Stamping 411- sketch 174.
Digi Doodle shops best- keep it simple
2 sisters blog challenge- anything goes
I did it creations challenge- open challenge

Success card.

It's exam season around here and that means one thing - success cards. It's the custom that when candidates are taking the National exams every year between October and November, family and friends will send what is commonly known as a success card. It's basically a note of good will and an offer of support.
I have several cousins and young friends doing exams this year and I am not one to send store bought cards. So this is the perfect excuse to do what I love most.
I made this card using a sketch from Stamping 411.
This card is for a boy hence the color choice and I made this quilled flower for a bit of drama.
quilling up close.
The sentiment was made by stamping the individual letters with an alphabet stamp.

Also for the following challenges;-
Stamping 411- sketch 173

One stictch at a time- embellish it with your favorite things- quilled flowers.

Roses are red.

After the tenth attempt at making roses I was ready to give up. Then I chanced upon this tutorial and well there was no stopping me.
When I saw this lovely sketch by Danette of the Sketches4all forum I knew where my roses were headed.
So I folded and glued all evening yesterday and this is what I came up with;
Up close.
I cut up an old envelope into 1 cm strips and made the roses then punched out some leaves with a leaf punch. It looks complicated but is quite easy, very easy and they stick well to paper with regular glue stick.
My card will be part of these challenges;-
Scrapbook sisters- flower power.
Paper Cutz challenge # 63- anything goes.
The ABC Challenge- F is for................ flowers.
Other lovelies challenge- G is for...........green.
Polka doodles- make your own embellishment.
paper take weekly- 3 of a kind ( layers).
Tuesday throwback- 3 of something (layers).

On a down side, I have a weeks worth of family laundry to do today ( by hand- yes, we still do our laundry by hand and hang it out in the sun).
Lastly, can you guess what this is (duh, a pumpkin) but would you guess it is a CAKE! Check out Ashlee's amazing work.

That said, thanks for visiting and drop me a note, I love your feedback.

S'more quilling!

Am still excited about this quilling thing and I have been on a roll (pun intended!) making paper flowers and stuff. So excuse the flowery mess.
Plus I needed an excuse to use my new butterfly punch and went all crazy with the butterflies and flowers.
All I needed was some more inspiration and of course Stamping 411 had a lovely sketch this week. The sentiment is partially hidden by the flowers but it says "A beautiful angel". To make the butterflies pop out I glued on one wing and raised the other one slightly.
This card is for a friend who delivered a baby last week and I will be sending it along with some other hand made goodies- time to oil the sewing machine.

Up close:
Am sorry for the shadows.
Me and my flowers will be attending the following parties:
Stamping 411 Sketch challenge # 72.
Tuesday taggers- more than two legs.
Craftalicious- anything goes
The crafty pad-Anything for a friend.
Flutter by Wednesdays- Butterfly.
Stamp something- Something punchy.
Ellephantastic challenges- anything goes
Thanks for looking and enjoy.

Orange me glad.

Orange, strangely is one of my favorite colors. Not on clothing ( NO NO NO unless its baby's) but on everything else- decor, fruit and paper- especially on paper.
So I was excited when Digi Doodle Shop's Best gave us the permission to turn orange.
My orange creation will also be appearing in the following places;-
Paper pretties - Sketch
Creative Card Crew - Blooming marvellous.
Other Lovelies - F is for- Friends, foam and flowers.
For fun challenges - bought and never used (in my case given and never used)- best friend stamp.
Freshly brewed blog - anything goes- girly.

On another front I was proud to watch a fellow Kenyan win the Chicago marathon. Mr. Samuel Wanjiru won for the second year in a row in addition to being the London marathon winner last year.

Oh did I forget to mention that Wanjiru won the marathon gold medal at the Beijing Olympics? and he is only 24 years!.
Makes me feel all warm, fuzzy and patriotic on the inside.
Happy crafting and thanks for visiting.

Learning to quill paper

This is definitely new- only to me that is. Apparently Quilling has been around for very long but I heard of it just the other day and decided to give it a go.
I played along with the lovely sketch provided by the ever inspirational ladies of  ICS  which gave me a chance to try out my newbie quilling skills.
I used a lot of red paper and couldn't resist using the "Love you" clear stamp (is red officially the colour of love or is it just me?).
Of course I had to play around with several shapes. Am happy because now I can make my own flowers especially roses or interesting stuff like this quilled butterfly!
I used stuff that was already lying around in the house, my paper cutter, colored paper (from recycled envelopes) , a tooth pick and some glue. Yay for cheap!
My card also fit in the following challenges:-
ICS- Sketch #86
CCEE Stampers- Flower power.
Crafty Ho's Challenge- red, green and brown.
Delightful challenges- Red green and white.
Thank you for reading and have a happy, creative week.

Just Because.

I made a card just because I felt like it. Not to enter any challenge or to win something but I had an idea and went along with it.
Take a peek.

I am happy that the weekend is here, I get time to spend with my family and maybe do some crafting if Jay lets me.
I was happy thrilled to get a note from the post office that I had mail from Laura of Laura Tiffany Studio's.
I won her giveaway sometime back and I have been waiting eagerly for her package. Some new stamps, papers, punch and other goodies! Oh my.
Lookie what I am getting.
Image from Laura Tiffany Studios
Laura was one of my first followers ( I follow her too) and she has an wonderful and interesting blog with beautiful posts, pictures and videos, PLUS two etsy shops Paperistic and The Wishing Star. She sells awesome bags, note books and other amazing stuff. Do take a look.
I may go over this weekend and collect the parcel.
Enjoy your weekend and thank you so much for stopping by and for leaving a comment.

I just found out that I won an awesome gift at Lynn's Designer Creations blog.
What did I win? How about one of these!
A cute and elegant address book. Lynn's blog is one of my favorite and I make sure I drop in whenever I can to see what she is up to and get inspired. She happens to have another giveaway going on so I may just enter that too and hope lightning can strike twice!
I made a card this weekend with the sketch provided by the awesome Stamping 411.
Saturday sketch challenge #171
Check out the card. Its not quite finished yet.I ran out of glue before I could complete it but thought I would share it just the same.
I was hoping to make more cards over the weekend but this young man kept me very busy. Grabbing and eating flowers, dipping his hands in glue and wanting to eat any shiny bling around him (the horror!)

But since my first priority is to be a mum I gave him all the attention and managed to finish this card last night (after four days!).
Am aslo playing along with:-
Pollycraft challenge blog #64 Anything goes.
No time to stamp- Three is the number.

Celebration and sewing.

Happy monday!
I made a card using another sketch from card patterns blog.

Their sketch #82 was very lovely.
I tried to be minimal on this one and I like the end result.
My card also fits in with this weeks card challenge at Florishes. The theme was celebrate. I think I just did and may make a birthday card tonight with their theme.
I also had sometime this weekend to sew for my son. I made him a shirt using this tutorial from my favorite sewing blog Made. Forgive the awful, awful taken-in-the-dark-with-a- fidgety-baby- picture, The boy and the shirt quite a handsome pair.
The 90- minute Shirt.
I used some cream knit fabric and grey ribbing for the neck. Now a quick question, I have been seeing a lot of blogs celebrating the Fall theme, can you tell me what are the colours of fall? patterns?
I live in the right on the equator and basically as far as seasons go its either hot (most of the year), or cold and raining from around July to September.
Enjoy and thanks for looking.

Here is what I made:-

Am not entirely proud of this card (** sigh) too much going on but live and learn.

Tuesday, September 21, 2010

Thank you.

Thank you for visiting my blog.
I made this card with the very inspirational sketch#82 provided by the lovely Card Patterns blog.
I usually tend to interpret the sketches very literally then I visit someone's blog and see their interpretation and go like ' why couldn't I think of that'. Anyway there is much for me to learn. Take a look at my card;-

I went along with some green fabric which was from a giveaway win sometime ago. Since I am not much of a quilter I will be using more of these charm packs in my cards.
Am also entering this card in the following challenges:

Thank you for showing me some comment love. I really enjoy visiting your lovely blogs.
